Flatshares sorted in one evening
So, what is Speed Flatmating? Speed Flatmating is the perfect way to find your new flatmate. It's not about what you share it's about who you're sharing it with so it makes sense to check out the people first. By coming to an Speed Flatmating event you get the chance to meet loads of potential new flatmates in the time it would take you to travel to and look round a single flat (and discover you wouldn't want to share with the people there ayway). It really couldn't be easier!

Next Event: next Tuesday (7th Sep), SoBar, London
Looking for a room?
- Meet households with rooms to let and/or
- Find like-minded people to start a new share with
Have a room to let?
- Meet loads of potential flatmates looking in your area
Despite the name, the events are no longer based on the speed dating format - we've made them far more informal (and useful) now. You simply fill in a name badge with your rent/budget and location and talk to who you want, when you want and for as much or as little time as you want! (read more about the new format lower down)
Why Speed Flatmating?
Speed Flatmating is...
- Faster
- See many potential flatmates in the time it would normally take to see just one!
- Safer
- There's always a small element of risk when going to a stranger's house or inviting someone into your home. Meeting prospective flatmates in a public place eliminates that risk.
- Easier
- Bypass that awkward flatmate interview by meeting on neutral ground, in the relaxing confines of a bar. You're much more likely to get a natural impression of someone in that environment.
- More fun
- As well as being useful, it's a good night out. You get to meet lots of new, like-minded people. There have been many friendships formed at our events as well as flatshares!
How the events work
The events are very straightforward and laid back. Everyone is given a name badge to fill out when they arrive: those looking for a room get a pink NEED A ROOM sticker and those with a room get a white HAVE A ROOM badge. All you need to do is fill in your name, budget (or rent for those offering) and location and then get yourself a drink from the bar and start mingling.
What previous attendees have said
We had lots positive feedback after our old speed-dating-style events (read more about them in our faq). Some of these comments are listed below
"It was good to meet potential flatmates on neutral ground and chat to them in a social environment"
"It would normally take up a whole week of my evenings interviewing flatmates, but speed flatmating enabled me to do it all in one night!"
"A lot of fun, will definitely do it again next time I'm looking for somewhere to live"
"It attracted like minded people and I found the whole experience very useful and had a good time"
"Initially I had advertised only for male flatmates, however after this evening I realise I was wrong to rule people out and have found two flatmates, one of whom is female"
"Even though I didn't find any right matches, I did meet another 'flat seeker', and we're currently looking for 2 bed flats together, so thanks! If anything, it's also a really good way to meet similar people who are also moving into the area... I know very few people that actually live in Clapham, so by going on Tuesday, I've made a friend who's in exactly the same position as me. "
"We had arranged for 2 people to come and view the room last night, and both of us had rearranged our evenings around it. One person called to cancel at 6.30pm, and the second texted us an hour after they were meant to come round to say they weren't coming (we'd kind of guessed!). Fiona turned round to me and said - this is why speed flat mating is so great - and I totally agree with her. It's one night and you get to meet loads of people."

Speed flatmating was excellent. Met a number of different people from different houses/flats to rent, in different areas, all in one location.
